GW Projects

Aims of our projects

We are aiming for direct detection of gravitational waves by development of ground based detectors, such as TAMA300, CLIO, and KAGRA, as well as the space-borne interferometer DECIGO.

A gravitational wave is a ripples of space-time. Its existence is proved by radio observations of binary pulsars. However, the direct detection is not yet achieved. If the gravitational waves are detected, they will give us new information of the universe, which will not be obtained from ordinary optical astronomical observations.

We are also developping technologies for the next generation GW detectors.
